Montejaque is one of the beautiful white
villages of Andalucia. It is located 15kms from fabulous Ronda and
lies in the Grazalema Natural Park. The village has a long history
reaching back to the time of the conquest by the Moors. It is built
on a rocky hillside above a valley of sunflower fields, olive groves
and vineyards .
In this traditional Spanish village you will, like us, soon feel
part of rural Andalucian life where it is so easy to relax and enjoy
a peaceful time away from the pressures of modern life. As you walk
to your house you follow steep, winding streets which thread their
way between whitewashed cottages, whilst a few steps further on the
edge of the village, sheep and goat bells can be heard as the animals
meander about the surrounding hillside.
Moreover the 21st century has bought some changes so albeit you can
not beat the traditional tapas there are several delightful restaurants,
bars, shops even a fishmongers with incredibly cheap fresh fish. You
will be able to buy almost everything you need for self catering in
the village shops even a leg of fantastic Jamon de Serrano from the
village factory. The newly refurbished hotel in the main square does
particularly good food whether you want tapas or a full meal.
For
those who like to be active there is no shortage of leisure activities.
There are many walks that wind away from Montejaque through
the mountains, cork forests and farmland of the Grazalema Natural
Park where you can enjoy spectacular scenery in solitary splendour
or walk through local cave systems seeing the 25,000 year old cave
paintings. Other activities that can be arranged in the area by our
local agent
include horse riding, climbing, caving, gorge descents and mountain
biking.
For a change of scenery you could visit Ronda, Seville, Jerez, Gibraltar
or Granada or explore the surrounding National Parks, the beaches
of
Marbella to San Pedro or even visit the wild beaches of the Costa
de la Luz. Another option is a day trip to Africa by catching the
ferry to Tangiers.

Montejaque is hot in summer but tends not to suffer overly from the
summer heat due to its height and it rarely rains between May and
October. There is a lovely pool in the centre of the village that
can be used by our guests at a nominal cost. There are also other
pools a short distance away by car.
Our village houses have no direct access by car so your holiday will
start with a walk from your car in the village square back in time
through the narrow winding streets of pretty whitewashed houses.
